Andy Algire


Andy Algire is a percussionist, composer and educator specializing in African and jazz music.  Andy has been an integral part of the Drum Cafe team since 2012.  His music training began as a Percussion Performance Major at the University of Wisconsin, with formal African study with Guinean master balafonist Abou Sylla. For the past 17 years, he has recorded and performed with Mr. Sylla regularly. He has been a member of the award winning company Feraba-African Rhythm Tap since 2002 and is currently the musical director.  Andy is also a member of several New York based bands including the Mandingo Ambassadors and Kakande, and performs nationally and internationally with Making Music Dance.  Andy is also very active as a music educator, leading classes, workshops and residencies at Sarah Lawrence College, and in the New York City schools.
