Sekou Pablo Djembe
Sekou Dembele (Pablo Djembe), is a New York based musician from Cote d’Ivoire.
He is a master of the West African djembe and doundoun; banjo & guitar. Pablo has been a Lead drummer and composer with Drum Cafe since 2008. He has been performing for over 27 years around the globe at world renowned venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the American National Theater and Academy, Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Library of Congress, the United Nations, John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and many more alongside several esteemed musicians. Pablo comes from a long line of griots, which are West African historians of the Mandinka tribe who preserve their cultural traditions through music, art, and storytelling. Since arriving in New York 23 years ago with L’Ensemble Koteba d’ Abidjan, this legendary musician has found joy in sharing his West African culture with music lovers everywhere.
